We arrived on Anguilla with Bert and Jill from the Oasis Bar & Grill on August Monday. WOW! What a party. We arrived on July 31st, which is the first MAJOR party night of the carnival week. We should have taken a clue from the ferry ride over from St. Martin. At the ferry terminal in Marigot there were about 50 younger folks with coolers getting ready for the big day in Anguilla. They all looked primed for the occasion. Our first meal on Anguilla was at a beach BBQ in front of Johnno's on the beach at Sandy Ground. The boats were lined up two deep all the way across the bay. There were live bands playing, and thousands of people.
We retired pretty early, all things considered, that evening. Our hosts for the stay on Anguilla were Jason and Robin Howe the owners of Rumza. The next day Jason gave us a tour of his new night club and restaraunt, or should I say construction project. He made it quite clear to us that he wanted us involved in the project in one way or another. That evening we were treated to a dinner at Straw Hat. A fine dining establishment located on the east side of Anguilla facing French St. Martin. While the meal was enjoyable I wouldn't rank it up there with the many great restaraunts found in Grand Case.
The following afternoon Jason and Robin took us to Scilly Cay for lunch. I have to say that the best caribbean lobster I have ever had was served up. Perhaps the BEST lunch I have ever had. I snorkeled for a few minutes before lunch, but it isn't a place I would waste my time with again. That night Chef John from Rumza served us a sample of the dishes he had been working on. A variety of items he is planning on having on his Caribbean Fusion menu. All were very good, however, I was so hot it was hard to enjoy the great food. The following day we enjoyed lunch at Quisinart with Bert and Jill, and then later that afternooon departed for St. Maarten. We would have to give Jason's proposal some long thought.

In any event it turned out to be a quite nice trip. On the way home I decided that in the future we will stay either at The Royal Islander LaPlage, The Grand Case Beach Club, or in a nice villa in Terres Basses. I no longer enjoy driving around the island. The traffic is just too much! Staying at the Royal Islander would be the choice for a week of relaxing by the pool and visiting with our friends while enjoying some good food. The Grand Case Beach Club would allow us to enjoy the great foot found in Grand Case as well as a quick trip to Orient Beach. |
