the Sint Maarten Flag Ordinance (PS 1985,5) (Flag Regulation of Sint Maarten).

THE EXECUTIVE COUNCIL OF THE ISLAND TERRITORY OF SINT MAARTEN
Considering article 3 of the Sint Maarten Flag Ordinance (AB 1985,5);
Resolves

To establish the following island resolution, containing general measures:

Article 1
Flying the Sint Maarten Flag together with flags from the Kingdom of the Netherlands
and the Netherlands Antilles, will take place according to the stipulations of this
regulation.

Article 2
When the Island Territory of Sint Maarten flies the flag of the Kingdom of the
Netherlands on specific days established federally, then the Netherlands Antillean flag
and that of Sint Maarten will be flown simultaneously. If only the flag of the Netherlands
Antilles is flown, then the Sint Maarten flag will be flown simultaneously.

Article 3
1. When flying the Sint Maarten flag against or on a building or other construction
together with the flag of the Netherlands Antilles, then the place of the Netherlands
Antillean flag is to right on or against the building or construction.

2. When, besides the flag of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the flag of the
Netherlands Antilles, the Sint Maarten flag is also flown on or against a building or other
construction, then the Kingdom flag is to be placed in the middle, the Netherlands
Antillean flag to the right thereof and the Sint Maarten flag to the left thereof.

3. If one or more flags of other island territories of the Netherlands Antilles are flown,
these flags will be placed in alphabetical order of the names of the island territories of the
Netherlands Antilles, placed alternatively to the left of the Sint Maarten flag and to the
right of the Netherlands Antillean flag, starting with the right side of the Netherlands
Antillean flag.

4. When the Sint Maarten flag is unfurled simultaneously with the Antillean flag in a
room, or at a meeting, where there is a lectern for a speaker, then the first paragraph is
applicable accordingly.

5. When the Sint Maarten flag is raised simultaneously with the flags of the Netherlands
Antilles and the Kingdom of the Netherlands, in a room or at a meeting, where there is a
lectern for a speaker, then the second paragraph will be applicable accordingly.

6. The fourth and fifth paragraphs are applicable accordingly, when the relevant flags are
affixed to the wall behind the speaker.

7. The place indications “right” and “left”, used in this resolution, are seen from the front
of the flag, therefore with the back to the building or the wall before or against which the
flags are placed.

8. When flying different flags as meant in this section, flags and flag sticks of mostly the
same length and workings will be used as much as possible.

Article 4
1. When the Sint Maarten flag is flown with the Netherlands Antillean flag, the flag of
the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the flag of another country or international
organization, then the Sint Maarten flag should be placed to the left , while the flags of
the other countries or organizations are placed alternately to the right of that of the
Kingdom of the Netherlands and to the left of the Netherlands Antillean flag.

2. Article 3, third paragraph, is applicable accordingly, with the understanding that
instead of the Netherlands Antillean flag, one should read: the flag placed to the most
right side of the flag of another country or international organization.

Article 5
1. When the Sint Maarten flag is flown on the island of Sint Maarten, then it should have
an honorary place above the flags of the other island territories, local associations and
private organizations.

2. The first paragraph does not touch the honorary place that the flags of the Kingdom of
the Netherlands and the Netherlands Antilles should have above the flags of the island
territories, local associations and private organizations.

Article 6
1. Flying the Sint Maarten flag, the flag of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and that of
the Netherlands Antilles, does not affect the use of the orange streamer.

2. No orange streamer is used when flying the Sint Maarten flag.

Article 7
1. When the Sint Maarten flag and the Netherlands Antillean flag are flown
simultaneously, then the latter flag will be raised or unfurled first and it will be the last to
be taken down or removed.

2. When the flag of the Kigndom of the Netherlands, the Netherlands Antillean flag and
the Sint Maarten flag are flown simultaneously, the flag of the Kingdom of the
Netherlands will be raised or unfurled first, then that of the Netherlands Antilles and
thereafter the Sint Maarten flag and when lowering the flags, the opposite order will be
observed.

Article 8
When after sundown the Sint Maarten flag is flown or unfurled, whether or not together
with other flags, it will be sufficiently illuminated.
